Dental Implants
Conventional bridges or dentures aren't your only options for replacing missing teeth. For many people, dental implants offer a smile that looks and feels completely natural. Placed surgically below the gum over a series of appointments, an implant fuses to the jawbone and acts as a base for an individual replacement tooth, a bridge or a denture, giving a stable, secure fit that many patients find more comfortable than conventional alternatives.
What's involved in placing an implant?
First, surgery places the anchor into the jawbone. The bone then needs around three months to grow around the anchor and hold it firmly in place. Some implants need a second, minor surgery to attach a post that connects the anchor to the replacement tooth; with others, the anchor and post are attached and placed together. Once the gums have had several weeks to heal, we make and fit the artificial tooth to the post, which can take one to two months and may need a few fittings.
Am I a suitable candidate?
You'll need healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant. A thorough evaluation at a free consultation with one of our dentists will confirm whether implants are right for you.
